About Lalo and Performance Mobile Detailing
Performance Mobile Detailing is my business. I'm Gerardo Espinoza, though most customers know me as Lalo, and I've been detailing cars for 26+ years. I'm based in West Sacramento, and I do the work where your car already sits: your driveway, your apartment lot or your workplace.
How I got into detailing
I started while I was in college studying business. On weekends I learned the trade hands-on from family, found I liked it, and kept going until it became my full-time work. I never worked under another shop. What I know came from doing the job, one vehicle at a time.
Since then I've trained other detailers. Most jobs I handle myself, and on larger ones I bring a helper.
How the business works
There's no shop for you to drive to. I come to your house, apartment lot or workplace, and the truck carries what the job needs: a tank that holds up to 300 gallons, a generator, a pressure washer, a foam cannon and an extractor for seats and carpet. I'll use an outlet if one is handy, but I always ask first.
Most of my work starts with a phone call. I can price most jobs over the phone, though paint correction means I need to see the paint first. When I arrive, we walk around the vehicle together, and if anything would cost extra, you hear about it before I begin.
Who I work for
Most of my customers are people who want their own car detailed at home or at work. I also run fleet accounts for companies with work vehicles; PG&E and SMUD are two of them. Some local body shops send jobs my way as well.
What I care about
The part of this work I enjoy most is the people and the follow-through. I want customers to say I did what I told them I'd do, and that I took pride in it.
After this many years, I can usually look at a vehicle and tell what it needs and what it doesn't. If detailing can't fix something, I'll say so plainly, and if a body, paint or upholstery shop is the better call, I'll point you there.
